Badminton World Championship, memes, etc.

I had a difficult time waking up this morning. Wondered if it was related to my current condition. Hmmm, suddenly I remembered the reason why...I stayed up late watching the 2006 World Badminton Championships telecast live from Madrid, Spain. Aww shucks. Memo to self, sleep early from now on. I think I can sacrifice 7 more months of late night television in exchange for a healthy baby. It was quite funny though...I was rooting for Lin Dan on behalf of my unborn baby....hahaha. I'm so glad he won the World Championship. Bao Chunlai, Lin Dan's opponent and compatriot, is also a good player. There are other opportunities for him to win though, so good luck on his next try.

Anyway, these memes are long overdue. (Sorry Ipanema and Mita for the delay.)

First off, Ipanema requested me to name seven songs that I'm into right now. Hmm, I'm not really into music these days since I'm too sleepy to pop a CD in the player or to turn on the radio. Anyway, these are the songs that I last listened to on my cellphone/mp3 player:

1. Always Look on the Bright Side of Life - Art Garfunkel's version

2. Moon River - Louis Armstrong

3. La vie en rose - Louis Armstrong

4. What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

5. Do you hear the people sing - from Les Miserables

6. Master of the house - from Les Miserables

7. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas - Johnny Matthis

I included the last one since this song never fails to get me in the Christmas mood. And I love the voice of Johnny Matthis. :-D

Now, onto Mita's meme. She requested me to list the top 5 things to eat before you die. I had more trouble deciding on this one because my taste buds are askew these days. Previous favorites have been included in the banned list at home...well, at least until I give birth. I cannot even take the smell of sauteeing garlic and onions. Oh well, seven more months....seven more months.

Anyway, here's my own list of top 5 things to eat before you die:

1. Steamed lapu-lapu from Emerald's Garden along Roxas Boulevard. I love their fresh steamed lapu-lapu with the mixture of just the right seasonings.

2. Prawn salad from President's in Chinatown.

3. Sweet lanzones from camiguin...and it's lanzones season to boot! (Yipee! My stomach is rejoicing at the thought of these sweet fresh lanzones.)

4. Pork chop from Tasty Dumplings (they have branches in Chinatown, Wilson St., Banawe among others). Their food is reasonably priced, even for those on a tight budget. Their chops are thin, crunchy and very tasty.

5. Razon's halo halo. I just love their halo-halo. Their recipe hails from Pampanga. The leche flan on top just melts in your mouth. Yummmmmmmyyy.

I would have wanted to include lumpia from a certain shop in Quiapo. But the name of the shop escapes me at this point. Sorry guys.

Anyway, there you go. Sorry for the delay. And since these memes are long overdue, I don't think I'll tag anyone. Hope you all had an enjoyable weekend. :-D

I didn't know Louis Armstrong had a version of Moon River and La Vie En Rose, was it as good as the versions of Andy Williams and Edith Piaf? :-)

Re your food meme: I agree with items 1, 2 and 4. Although the fried chicken in Tasty Dumplings is quite good also, especially with a bowl of hot noodles. :-)

Now you're making me crave for those 3 items again... LOL! :-D

This is nice of you Ladybug. I know you're infanticipating and experiencing some adjustment to motherhood but still you did this. You're a good sport. Thanks for doing this.

Wow, I love your list - they're on my favourites. And another wow for the food list. I love steamed lapu-lapu, Razon's halo-halo!, prawn salad and the lazones. Camiguin lanzones is sweet. :)

By the way, I'm happy Li Dan won. I was at a friend's party last night and everyone was scratching their heads when it was time for the telecast. Finally when it was dismissal time, everyone just rushed off. I wasn't able to watch. :(

Missed your entries :)

Grace Jones' version of "La Vie En Rose" has always been my favorite. Willie Nelson's "What a Wonderful World" is also worth listening to, also. "Christmas Song" is a classic by J. Mathis.

Now for food:

Steamed lapu-lapu at Emerald must be pricey, huh?

I will definitely try the pork chop at Tasty Dumplings (at Ongpin near Binondo Church, right?).

Where is Razon's?

As for the Quiapo lumpia, do you remember location? I can go there and find out for you if you can give me location.

Thanks!

Les Miserables "Do You Hear The People Sing" is such a marchy song and very bombastic that it had appealed to me immediately after I heard it the first time. It's a song I always like to hum or sing during showers...And I never get tired of it.

snglguy> I'm not really sure which version is better....it would depend on your preference. I like Louis Armstrong's version because for me it has more character. :-D

My husband also likes the fried chicken of Tasty Dumplings. I still remember when I was in high school and Tasty only had one branch...it was along Soler St., I think (I'm not sure about the name of the street though.) And all of the tables could seat about 8 persons. You had better be prepared to sit with others if there are just a few of you on the table. Very old-fashioned and homey atmosphere. Umasenso na sila ngayon...dami ng branches. I still love their dishes though. Makes me reminisce about my high school days. I also love their noodles. Grabe...gusto ko na ring kumain ngayon! lol! :-D

ipanema> No problem. I actually had fun doing the meme. At least I had no trouble thinking of a topic.

Hey, sayang. You weren't able to watch the championships. It was truly a suspense-filled championship. Bao Chun Lai won the first set. There was a time in the second set when I thought Lin Dan was going to lose the set, and the championship. I couldn't look at the screen. When I heard ny husband jump with delight, I finally had the courage to look at the screen. Hay salamat. Lumamang na si Lin Dan. And he eventually won the second and the third sets. Hahahaha...all that time I was whispering to my baby to follow in Lin Dan's footsteps....lol!

eric> Thanks! It's nice to feel missed...hahaha....para bang bata. I also missed interacting with you guys. But last week was a difficult week for me. Maybe when everything's in its proper place, I'll blog about the incidents that happened last week. But please be rest assured that I'm ok now.

Hey, "Christmas Song" pala yung title ng song ni Johnny Matthis. Thanks for the info. :-D

Steamed lapu-lapu at Emerald Garden can be quite pricey. My father used to order it during birthday celebrations when he was still alive. We don't order it anymore because of its price. We just make do with our home-cooked version of steamed tilapia.

Yes, there is a branch of Tasty Dumplings along Ongpin Street across Binondo church and near Eng Bee Tin. I love ordering it with rice because the sauce they pour over the rice is also delicious. Others prefer ordering it with hot noodles.

There is a Razon's food stall in Robinson's Galleria and at the food court in Market Market (on the ground floor.) There is also a Razon's restaurant along Jupiter St. You should also try their version of pancit palabok. Very tasty. Yummy!

As for the shop in Quiapo selling lumpia, I'm sorry but I don't know the directions too. I'm bad with directions. I will ask some friends of mine and tell you the details soon, promise. :-D

major tom> I'm glad you also like this song. Medyo nakokornihan kasi asawa ko eh....hahahaha. I agree with you there...it's a very marchy song and I never get tired of humming or singing it too. I even downloaded the lyrics to this song. :-D

Ladybug,

Thank you, I hope that I will get through that time too. I really wish I would feel better soon. Sigh.

How is everything going on with you?

(:

I love Louis Armstrong too. And Les Miserables is my absolute favorite. I've watched it twice in Broadway before but there was one part (A Little Fall of Rain) which I never saw because my eyes were always full of tears. :) They're reviving it... but next month pa. Shucks, I missed it!

Yeah, I rememeber Tasty's first outlet in Soler. I used to have Sunday brunch there with friends when it was newly opened.

So you went to a school near the place? :-)

ladybug said...

kyels> You will feel better with the passage of time. :-) As for me, I'm ok. I have morning sickness all the time. But otherwise, everything's ok.

toe> no problem, punta ka na lang ulit sa NY next month....hahaha. :-D Buti ka pa nakapag-bakasyon na. I'm glad you had a lot of fun.

ladybug said...

snglguy> Oopppss....huli ako doon ah. Yes, I went to school near that place. And whenever we would have a long lunch break (about once a month), my friends and I would immediately go there to eat. :-)

Anonymous said...

Ummm, there are a couple of schools a walking distance from Tasty. Want me to guess which? LOL! :-D

Anonymous said...

Finally, I'm able to reply...I couldn't get in yesterday.

Thanks so much, Ladybug, your effort is much appreciated. I love Louis Armstrong! My favorite is his version of C'est si Bon.

I'm looking forward to check out your list of favorite foods in November..all I've tasted from your list is the lanzones so there are still 4 to try!

Anonymous said...

I also like What a Wonderful World. And how I miss lanzones.

Anonymous said...

Ginutom ako doon ha. I love lanzones, too. Kahit 2 kilos isang upuan kaya kong ubusin :)

Take care of yourself ha, huwag na magpuyat para kay baby.

ladybug said...

Lani> Thanks for the nice thoughts. Nag-iingat talaga ako ngayon for the baby. Hahahaha...speaking of lanzones, nakaubos yata kami ng 2 kilo kahapon. Pero mas matakaw asawa ko sa lanzones. Para ngang siya yung naglilihi eh. :-D

I think the place in Quiapo you are referring to for lumpia is Globe. It is near the corner of Raon and Quezon Ave.
