Traffic condition last night

It was around 6:20 last night when I heard the sound of thunder. My room at the office had no windows so I had to go out of my room and peek at the next available window. Sure enough, it was raining hard. I had a hunch that if I stayed long in the office with this kind of rain, we would have difficulty going home since we live in a flood-prone area. I called up my husband to pick me up. By 7:00 P.M., we were already on our way home.

The rain suddenly stopped. So feeling confident that the water will subside, we plied the Espana route. Lo and behold, there was water everywhere and traffic stood still. Arrgghhh, we should have known. That area is really prone to flood at the first sign of rain.

See the water on the street and the
stream of people crossing the street

The people walking hurriedly by inspite of the flood,
probaly to catch the latest teleserye at home.

With the elections looming next year, I just hope that the politicians make good on their promise to improve the drainage and flood-control system, not just in Metro Manila, but nationwide. Santa, I hope you're reading this.

Oops, I almost forgot. What time did we get home? 10:20 P.M. I could hardly believe it myself. That's how bad the traffic situation was last night.

Omigod! 10:20, that long? Your photos brought me back to a certain time in the past. Who can forget the flood? Not me! Though I love rain, I fear flooding because I have to make a mental not where the manhole is located for my own safety. :)

It's been raining cats and dogs here too.

how nice that you blog even the traffic. like me, everything is a potentital entry.

my husband would have died--his tolerance level for traffic is sooo low.

Moral of the story: for rainy days, bring your SUV to work and leave your sedan at home. :)

10.20 at night ... Man, that's awfully long!

It has been raining cats and dogs over here in Malaysia too and certain area will be flooded if the rain gets too heavy.

I hope that by now the water has subsided.

I'm not surprised at all that you got home that late. I've also experienced that when I was still there. I've been gone a long time and it's still like that. tsk tsk tsk.

ipanema> yup, more than 3 hours kami na-traffic. Bonding time na lang naming mag-asawa yun...hahaha. :-)

minotte's notes> Good thing I had my camera with me. I just pitied my husband though...he was getting restless inside the car. THanks for dropping by! :-)

abaniko> I would like to follow your advice...kaso problema wala kaming SUV eh...hahaha. Baka pwede mo kaming pahiramin...hahahaha. Just kidding.

kyels> The water has subsided. Unfortunately, it rained again this morning. Arrgghhh. I'm dreading the traffic condition again tonight.

niceheart> Buti ka pa. I'm sure you don't experience these kinds of things anymore. brings back memories ba? :-)

Friends from Manila used to call that area as España River...I wonder why with all the budget set aside for infrastructure in the NCR Region, that area in front of UST remains a problem area when rain comes. Can't they just dig a huge tunnel under it and siphoned all the water all the way to Manila Bay?

That was some downpour last night; was I glad I didn't go out; otherwise, I would have gotten stuck in traffic as well.

From what I was told, it used to get as high as waist level in Espana, but the MMDA had done a decent job with flood control.

Glad to know you got home all right!

Ladybug,

Let's hope that there will be no more flood for tonight.

major tom> hahaha...korek ka dyan. Looks more like Espana river that night. I wish they could solve the drainage problem there. It really is terrible.

Ladybug,

I'm sure you'd be able to make it home early tonight. I'll cross my fingers.

:D

By the way, the poem is not for someone special. It's just that I have knack for composing poems. Heehee.

That's why I always avoid that area even at the slightest hint of a downpour. :-)

It's strange that I didn't see this post and the last one last night when I dropped by. Somethings wrong here...

ezer> Hi there! Thanks for dropping by too! :-)

kyels> Thanks. I'm happy to tell you that I got home safe, sound and fast. :-)

snglguy> That happens to me too sometimes. Are you using mozilla firefox? I constantly have to clear my cache in order to view new contents of the blogs I frequently visit. Maybe that's what happened in your case. :-)

hello lady bug. i love the way you honour badminton. i mean badminton is like the best sport i ever know.playing badminton always makes me feel enlightened.hahaha. it gives me this satisfaction that i've done something really useful. i started enjoying badminton more when i joined my class inter badminton compeition. we trained almost everyday during the june holidays and played against all the classes in my level. and we won the 1st prize. we got a medal each. how exciting is that?? hahaha. after that we did not make time to play badminton. but i shall follow what this man said.

They say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.

jerome> thanks! I'll link you up as well. :-) Badminton ka na rin. Sama mo hubby mo para masaya. :-)

ladybug said...

snglguy> Yup. Happens to me also. What's worse is that sometimes I would post comments, and when I return, my comments would be erased through no fault of the blog owner. Maybe it's just a glitch in the system.

ladybug said...

kyels> thanks for the nice thought. you're so sweet. :-)

ladybug said...

sri> Hi there! Thanks for dropping by my blog. I super love this sport. Thanks for the kind words. :-) Wow, you won a medal! You must be a good player. Just continue practising and who knows? You might be a top world-ranked player someday. Good luck on your future plans. :-)

That's a heck of a time going home. I could've flied from singapore to manila by the time you said you were going home (7pm) and can meet you the same time you actually reached home(10:30).

... but then again, it may take me another 3 and a half hours from the airport. lol.

rey> hahahaha....funny. You've got a point there.

rainy season again!
in my bloghopping since yesterday, i read around 4 or 5 blogs about the flooded streets in Manila.

That's sad to hear (about the flood, the long wait...) I hope politicians will *really* focus on the REAL problems and not how they can bring down their, dare I say, friends in politics

camcura> Hey, thanks for dropping by! I visited your blog too but I could not leave a comment. Probably because yo're using the beta version. So I just left a note in your shoutbox. Anyway, I agree with you there. I also hope that the politicians will now focus on the "real" problems.

Ohhh...I know what that's like! But QC is doing better with the flooding problems now than back 5 years ago I heard...

mita> fortunately, di na talaga kasing grabe ng situation dati. Mas matindi talaga dati. May improvement naman ngayon pero sana mawala na altogether. :-) Christmas wish lang naman.

If you are willing to spend some more, find a service that gives you a direct feed as to the traffic and weather conditions, directions, etc.. (like a GPS)

If not, just open your favorite AM station.

There has been no change in that area ha. Estudyante pa ako, ganyan na yang area na yan. tsk tsk

ladybug said...

myepinoy> Thanks for the advice. Actually, medyo nabawasan na nga sa lagay na yan eh. Pero minsan, kakagulat at bumabaha pa rin. :-)
